1.1 Vision

A united, active and winning province through sport, recreation, arts, culture and heritage.

1.2 Mission

x Developing, preserving and promoting sport, recreation, arts, culture and heritage for spiritual,

intellectual, and socio- economic upliftment of the people of the Eastern Cape.

1.3 Core functions and responsibilities

x Development, promotion and transformation of artists, athletes, cultural and sporting structures.
x Conservation and preservation of cultural heritage through the provision of museums, libraries and

archives services.

1.4 Main Services

x To develop, transform and promote arts, culture, museums and heritage, and language services in

order to contribute to government priorities.
x To provide free, equitable and accessible libraries, archives services and proper management and

preservation of public and non-public records.
