Vote 09 Department: Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and TourismTable 1: Summary of departmental allocation To be appropriated by Vote in 2025/26 R 1 815 756 000 Responsible MEC MEC of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism Administrating Department Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism Accounting Officer Head of Department 1 OVERVIEW 1.1 Vision By 2030, the Province will have a growing, transformed, diversified and inclusive green economy in a sustainable environment. 1.2 Mission A provincial catalyst for sustainable and inclusive economic development that promotes sound environmental management. 1.3 Core functions and responsibilities The core functions of the department are summarised as follows: %uf0b7 To drive economic growth and development in the Eastern Cape;%uf0b7 To develop key sectors of the economy through the provincial economic development strategy;%uf0b7 To develop and promote the provincial tourism sector;%uf0b7 To provide consumer protection services, gambling and betting regulations, trade inspectionand regulate the liquor industry; and%uf0b7 To develop regulatory frameworks and monitor the implementation of policies for the protectionof biodiversity and environment in the province.1.4 Main Services The department%u2019s core services are centred around economic and tourism development as well as environmental management. These services include but not limited to: %uf0b7 Coordinate all strategic initiatives relating to the creation of decent work through inclusiveeconomic growth, including the implementation of the relevant components of the NationalDevelopment Plan, Vision 2030 and a number of sector strategies;%uf0b7 Develop and utilise strategic frameworks and partnerships for the support and promotion of 600Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Cooperatives that are sustainable as wellas support local procurement in the province;612
