Department: Community Safety Vote 15 Department: Community Safety Table 1: Summary of departmental allocationTo be appropriated by Vote in 2025/26 R 153 975 000 Responsible MEC MEC of Community Safety Administrating Department Department of Community Safety Accounting Officer Head of Department 1 OVERVIEW 1.1 Vision Safer Eastern Cape with active and cohesive citizenry. 1.2 Mission To promote community safety through effective and evidence based civilian oversight, multistakeholder coordination and collaborative partnership. 1.3 Core functions and responsibilities %u2022 To oversee the effectiveness and efficiency of the police service.%u2022 To enhance community participation and structures against crime.%u2022 To promote good relations between the police and the community1.4 Main Services %u2022 The Civilian Secretariat for Police Services Act 2 of 2011, requires the department to enforceregular monitoring and assessment of the police service in terms of its policies and effectivenessof their systems.%u2022 Mobilisation of safety and security stakeholders towards advancing the implementation ofProvincial Safety Strategy and to ensure an integrated approach to social crime preventionprograms focusing on substance abuse, victim empowerment, school safety, gender-basedviolence with a specific focus on women and children.%u2022 The department also conducts research to influence the South African Police Service (SAPS)policy formulation and social crime prevention programmes.%u2022 Monitoring and evaluation of the compliance with the Domestic Violence Act of 116 of 1988.%u2022 The SAPS implementation of recommendations from the Independent Police Directorate is alsosubject to the monitoring by the department.860
