The provincial equitable share makes up the bulk of revenue available and reflects the shifts in provincial populations for the relative demand for public services that enables the province to meet the basic service delivery obligations. The 2022 Census and the updated 2024 mid-year population estimates show an increase in the provincial population, and this has a corresponding effect on the province's equitable share to address the growing provincial service-delivery responsibilities. In total, the province received an additional amount of R3.284 billion over the 2025 MTEF of which R902.367 million is in 2025/26, an amount of R1.170 billion in 2026/27 and R1.212 billion in the 2027/28 financial year. These funds are allocated from the impact of data updates in the provincial equitable share formula, for the continued support provided to the province to respond to the compensation of employees%u2019 pressures emanating from the wage agreement and for the Department of Education for the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative in the 2025/26 financial year.xviii
