reprioritisation to enhance awareness campaign and monitoring of the initiation programme in the main.
Transfers and subsidies reflects a decrease from 2022/23 by 100 per cent due to once-off payment of ex-

The roles and functions of the Eastern Cape Traditional Leaders are premised on the preservation of the
traditional, cultural and customary practices of the Eastern Cape rural communities. The election of new
office bearers in the House of Traditional Leaders will require orientation and induction for the newly
elected members and all other Traditional Leaders to understand their mandate and what is expected of
them as they execute their customary duties within the confines of the constitution and other relevant
prescripts of the institution to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency. In ensuring proper functioning of
traditional institutions, funds have been made available for infrastructure renovation and to construct two
new traditional councils.
