Freight Rail: Transnet is continuing with the freight rail reforms as part of rail revitalisation and turnaround strategy. The plan is to revitalize and develop the main rail lines, and open freight rail to private operators to increase freight rail productivity and improve overall rail capacity. With reference to the province Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) is planning to develop the Southern Rail Corridor, this rail mainline connects Gauteng freight rail with Eastern Cape freight rail and ports. Project Ukuvuselela is a national driven project, and the planned activities of the project include amongst others: %uf0b7 Expansion of the southern rail network to increase rail capacity in the corridor betweenGauteng and the Port of Port Elizabeth. Acquire three additional daily 50-wagon setsbetween Port of Port Elizabeth and Gauteng.%uf0b7 Partner with the private sector to provide experience and expertise in facilitating 150 000fully built units per annum of freight rail.35
